Sustainability Commitments
Don Farruco's production processes were deliberately designed to maximize efficiency and minimize environmental impact. Our low-energy indoor facilities are highly controlled and eco-friendly, requiring the use of no hazardous chemicals and agrotoxins in their maintenance. In addition, we have set objectives of reducing our already low greenhouse gas emission rates to nearly zero and recycling 100% of our waste materials, over 95% of which is already converted into fertilizer.
In Japan and China, the shiitake mushroom has been considered an elixir of life for more than 2000 years.
Its name, shiitake, has Japanese origins; "shii" refers to the kind of tree where it grows naturally and "take" means fungus.
Its technical name is Lentinula Edodes and it is the second most consumed mushroom in the world.
Highly appreciated for its medicinal properties and wide range of gastronomic applications, shiitake possesses an original and unique flavor.
